The 2021/2022 Moot Court Executive Team consists of 10 undergraduate students of interdisciplinary backgrounds.

Madalyn Arjomandi,

Moot Court Co-Chair

Madalyn is a third-year student currently majoring in Political Science with a minor in Law & Society.  She has avid interests in Canadian Politics, public policy, and law. She intends to pursue her career focused either in law or politics. 

In her extra time, she interned at her local MP Carla Qualtrough’s office, where she has been able to hone her academic skills and knowledge while gaining workplace experience. In addition, she helped to lead her local youth council by discussing community issues surrounding policies/laws and how they affect individuals. Madalyn is bilingual in both French and English and hopes to work on learning a third language in her future.

Elena Chen, Deputy Chair

Elena is a third-year student pursuing a major in Political Science. She has been interested in law since high school and plans to attend law school after graduation. She is fascinated by how the justice system influences our lives and society. Outside of school, Elena works at a boutique law firm as an Administrative Assistant, where she appreciates learning more about careers in the legal field. Additionally, Elena also volunteers at the Canuck’s Place Children’s Hospice as a Peer Volunteer. In her spare time, she enjoys watching Netflix, painting, and building LEGO. Her favourite shows include The Office, Friends, and Modern Family. This is Elena’s second year serving on Moot Court’s Executive Team and she looks forward to a successful Moot Court competition in 2022!


Alicia Ying,

Case Editor

Alicia is a fourth-year student, majoring in English Language and minoring in Law and Society. She aspires to attend law school and pursue a career in either criminal defence or human rights law, as she is passionate about social justice and seeking equity for marginalized groups. Last year, Alicia was a representative for City Hive's Young Citizen's Forum, where she virtually connected with local government and advocated for better engagement with young people within her community. In her spare time, Alicia is obsessed with making music and continues to love learning the basics of vocal production. She is looking forward to another year as a part of the Moot Court Team!

Harish Raju, Case Editor

Harish is a fourth-year Political Science student. He has the joy of being the logistics coordinator at last year’s Moot Court. This year, he has the privilege of being one of the Case Competition editors. Harish has a passion for law and politics that surround human rights issues. He intends on pursuing a career in law that would eventually allow him to make meaningful changes to society. As a result, this summer, he volunteered as a researcher for the BC Humanist Association (BCHA) and has supported them in their projects addressing a plethora of human rights issues in and out of BC. With BCHA, he has written and published a position paper supporting Bill C-6 that was also sent to the Canadian Senate. Harish looks forward to continuing his writing skills by supporting UBC Moot Court as their Case Competition Editor in the coming year.

India Coates,

Case Editor

India is a fourth-year International Relations and B+MM student. She loves making connections and planning events that bring people together. She likes baking, working out, and singing. India is always in for an adventure and trying new things, but those must always involve snacks and good company.


Sophia Huang,

IT Coordinator

Sophia is a third-year Commerce student specializing in Business Technology Management and Accounting with a concentration in Business Analytics. Her curiosity in the legal field began after watching the TV show Suits in high school and her interest has only grown since. Through combining her interests in technology and artificial intelligence, Sophia hopes to further explore the future adoption of legal technology in the workplace. In her spare time, Sophia enjoys volunteering as a tax filer, playing badminton and volleyball, and binging documentaries.

Olin Becker,


Logistics Coordinator

Olin is a second-year Commerce student who intends to pursue law after the completion of his degree. He’s interested in exploring the intersections of business and law, particularly how promoting legal literacy can help protect workers’ rights. He has a lifelong passion for oral advocacy that drives his interest in law and Moot Court, stemming from his experience as a competitive debater. Recently, he has worked as a public speaking coach and a camp counselor at a debate-focused summer camp, and finished as a finalist of last year’s Moot Court. His overwhelmingly positive experience at last year’s competition makes him even more excited to be joining the Moot Court Executive Team. Olin hopes that his experience in event planning and logistical management will allow the organizational process to be as smooth and transparent as possible. In his free time, he enjoys meeting new people, attending concerts, and hiking.

Crystal Jiang, Logistics Coordinator

Crystal is a fifth-year Commerce student specializing in Marketing with a concentration in International Business and Business Law. This is her first year on the UBC Moot Court Executive Team, and she is extremely excited to be here. After the past year and a half of attending online classes, Crystal is looking forward to a successful in-person Moot Court competition in January 2022. Outside of school, she is currently working for the Competition Bureau as a Student Competition Law Officer. Crystal also runs a food account with her sisters as they all enjoy trying new restaurants and dessert cafes around the lower mainland together!

Ghazal Rezaei, Finance Coordinator

Ghazal is a second year Arts student hoping to major in International Relations. She has been passionate about law since she entered high school, and has a dream to work at the UN as a lawyer. In her free time Ghazal likes to play guitar, watch Netflix, and participate in UBC clubs!

Kylie Ng, Graphics Media Coordinator

Kylie is a second-year student pursuing a major in Sociology and a minor in Law and Society. From debating in Model United Nations conferences in high school to interning at a top Civil Law firm in her country, Kylie has gained valuable insights into the world of activism and advocacy and upon reflecting, she felt that law was the right career choice for her. Kylie is excited to be a part of UBC's Moot Court Team, as she believes it will serve as a perfect stepping stone. As this year's Graphics Media Coordinator, she looks forward to utilizing her creative skills while gaining further exposure and practical experience in advocacy. Kylie is also extremely excited to meet other like-minded individuals who share her interest in law and with whom she can grow and learn from. In her spare time, Kylie enjoys dancing ballet, exploring hidden spots, and trying out new restaurants. Kylie is looking forward to a successful conference and a great year on the UBC Moot Court Team!
