The 2023/2024 Moot Court Executive Team consists of 8 undergraduate students of interdisciplinary backgrounds.

Madalyn Arjomandi,

Moot Court Co-Chair

Madalyn is a fifth-year student currently double majoring in Political Science and Psychology with a minor in Law & Society. She has avid interests in global affairs and immigration policies. Her intended field of career is focused on international relations and canadian politics. In her spare time, she has had the opportunity to intern at her local MP’s office, Carla Qualtrough where she’s been able to apply her academic knowledge and gain workplace experience. In addition, she helps lead her local youth council where she discusses community issues surrounding policies/laws and how they affect individuals. Overall, Madalyn is bilingual in both French and English and hopes to work on learning ASL in the future.

Shelby Lock,

Moot Court Co-Chair

Shelby, a fourth year sociology major, spends her free time designing stickers for her small business (@withlovevancouver), hanging out with her friends, and working at a physio clinic.

Aside from her dreams of being a lawyer, she wants to watch every horror movie and adopt many animals. At Moot Court, Shelby will work with Mady as co-chair to develop a team that is ready to host a conference even better than last year’s. She also wants to create new stickers in preparation for the conference - so stay tuned! She is so excited and thankful to be on the team and she is looking forward to seeing the successes of the upcoming year.


Mahsa Laghaei,

Case Competition Editor

Mahsa is in her fifth year at UBC majoring in Political Science. She has a driven passion for the legal field, with a particular interest in family and health law. For about a year, Mahsa has been working for a prominent Family and Divorce Law firm as a Junior Legal Assistant. She has also volunteered with several non-profit organizations including Women Transforming Cities and South Vancouver Neighbourhood House.

Currently, Mahsa is on a study abroad program at Science Po in Grenoble, France, where she is actively engaged with the university's Peer Tutoring and Ballet Program.

Last year, Mahsa served as one of our Logistics Coordinators. While she is currently on exchange, she remains committed to her position as Case Competition Editor. During this semester, she will be collaborating with us virtually.

Rachel Christian,

Finance Coordinator

Rachel is a fifth-year sociology, health and B+MM student. She is passionate about peer support and leadership which led to her interest in our team. Rachel is interested in all things sexual wellness. From efforts to increase awareness, contribute to asset-based research, and improve public health policy, she sees the deep connection law and justice have with sexuality in shaping an equitable future. After her Masters in management, she strives to pursue a career in the sexual wellness field. Building on her leadership background as a senior advisor with UBC Collegia, Rachel is currently working towards gaining experience within research and clinical settings. Overall, Rachel's excited to be a part of the 2024 conference, gain valuable experience and meet new people!



Lindsey Eiwanger,

Public Relations Coordinator

Lindsey is a fourth-year student majoring in Sociology and minoring in English Language. Her undergraduate studies have sparked her interest in pursuing a legal career to practice intersectional advocacy in the promotion of social justice. Lindsey is actively involved in the UBC Sociology community as an Associate Editor for the Sojourners Undergraduate Journal of Sociology and as a Teaching Assistant for introductory SOCI courses. This is her first year on the Moot Court executive team and she is looking forward to the fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience creating and carrying out a legal case. In her spare time, Lindsey is an avid brunch enthusiast who loves spin, yoga, and reading!

Olivia Iafano,

Marketing Coordinator

Olivia (She/Her/Hers) is a second year student at the Sauder School of Business hoping to specialize in entrepreneurship and concentrate in business law.

She has been interested in the legal field since high school, where she was captain of the debate team, and is planning to attend law school after finishing her undergraduate degree.

Olivia is an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta, and is currently serving as their Judicial Delegate on the Panhellenic Judicial Committee. She is also the treasurer for the UBC Premier Cheer team, and won “rookie of the year” last season. This is her first year on the UBC Moot Court Executive Team and she is looking forward to seeing what great things Moot Court will achieve this year!


Maya Hudson,

Logistics Coordinator

Maya is a second-year commerce student specializing in Organizational Behaviour and HR with a concentration in Business Law. She discovered her passion for law in her high school legal studies course and represented her school in debates and trials, as well as business case competitions. She has previously competed in Mock Trial and placed first in both the regional and public criminal competition. After being on the litigation side of things, she is excited to get to work organizing the trial for the 2024 season. Maya hopes to make a career in litigation and advocate for disadvantaged communities. Outside of school and law, she enjoys being a plant mom, finding new TV shows, and listening to Hozier on loop.

Kristen Wang,

Logistics Coordinator

Kristen is a fourth-year student majoring in Psychology with a minor in Commerce. She enjoyed competing in mock trial in high school and is interested in pursuing a career in law or psychology. She is passionate about mental health advocacy and raising awareness. In her spare time, Kristen is a self-taught realistic portrait artist. She also enjoys live music, attending concerts, watching sci-fi and action movies and shows, and exploring restaurants and cafes. This is her first year serving on Moot Court’s Executive Team and she looks forward to a successful competition in 2023 :))
